For over 10 years, Jasmit Singh Phulka represented Abbotsford on the world stage, starting out in the sport over 20 years ago.
Now he's bringing that home.
Born and raised in Abbotsford, Jasmit competed at the highest levels of international wrestling, from being an Olympic-qualifier, the Commonwealth Games, to the Pan Am Championships and beyond, carrying his city's name with him every step of the way.
But his commitment to Abbotsford never stopped at the mat. While competing, Jasmit was building – a Foundation, a philosophy, a community.
Jasmit is running for Abbotsford City Council in 2026.
Not because his journey is over, but because the next chapter of serving this city calls for a seat at the table.
Jasmit’s Story
Jasmit has spent over two decades in the sport of wrestling, starting in Abbotsford's local community and going on to represent Team Canada at the Commonwealth Games, as an Olympic-qualifier, and the Pan Am Championships, among other international competitions. He has been championing this city from the international stage since he was 16 years old.
But sport was never the whole story.
Rather, it was the starting point to Jasmit’s dedication to his community.
Since its inception, the Jasmit Singh Phulka Foundation's:
Holiday Toy Drive has raised over $135,000 in charity
Awarded more than $2,000 in educational scholarships to local youth every year since 2024.
And contributed $5,000 to the Abbotsford Police Department's Youth Programming.
For two years, through the JP74 Abbotsford Sport Combine, Jasmit also brought together over 100 young athletes to come and test themselves, wrapping up with numerous wrestling matches that showcased talent, effort, and heart for free.

Jasmit has sustained an 18-year career on a single principle: there are no shortcuts. No easy paths. Just hard work, sacrifice, and integrity applied consistently over time.
That philosophy doesn't stay in the gym or on the wrestling mat. It's how he runs his Foundation, and how he shows up for youth in this city.
It’s also how he'll serve on City Council, with the same dedication he brought to every competition he’s ever entered.
Why City Council?

The coaches, the community, the foundation to compete on the world stage. Running for City Council is his way of giving that back, not just through charity, but through leadership. Through being present in the decisions that shape the city he loves.
Jasmit is not running on promises.
