About Jasmit

Jasmit Singh Phulka was born on October 11, 1993. He is a Canadian free-style wrestler hailing from Abbotsford, BC and was inspired to start a career in wrestling by family influences, including his brother Chanmit, who is a Pan American Champion wrestler. Jasmit’s passion for wrestling began at a young age. He started his journey in the wrestling field at the age of 10. He debuted at the Senior World Wrestling Championships in Budapest in 2018 and quickly rose to notable heights.

The start of Jasmit Phulka’s wrestling journey

In 2010, at the age of 16, Jasmit won a gold medal at his first-ever international tournament representing Team Canada – the Youth Commonwealth Championships in Singapore. Alongside his pivotal win, he created Canadian history by becoming the first Canadian to ever win the Outstanding Youth Wrestler Award. Since then, Jasmit Singh Phulka has consistently been a top wrestler in Canada and worldwide.

Jasmit has been able to sustain a career spanning over 18 years due to his principle of taking no shortcuts. He believes that hard work is a more impactful, sustainable model of living than resorting to practices such as doping and other methods of enhancing sports performance. This philosophy remains integral throughout every aspect of Jasmit’s life and career.

Beyond his successful wrestling career, Phulka has also been actively involved in community work involving youth all across the Lower Mainland. His focus includes over three years mentoring at-risk South Asian youth with the Abbotsford Police Department, two years of weekly volunteering with the Canucks Place Children’s Hospice in Abbotsford, and a substantially successful annual toy-drive during the holiday season in collaboration with Canucks Place and BC Children’s Hospital.

In 2021, he was able to complete a donation campaign that brought over $20,000 to the Canucks Place and BC Children’s Hospital. Jasmit Singh Phulka also regularly volunteers with the Salvation Army, serving food to over 150 individuals in need – including 100 boxes of pizza and homemade Thanksgiving dinner. During the 2021 floods, Jasmit delivered over 500 hot meals for people impacted by mass flooding and road blockages. During the Pandemic, he also dropped off 100 boxes of pizza to the Abbotsford Hospital in recognition of front line workers and the risks they took every day to provide accessible healthcare during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
